Being part of the Belt and Road Initiative and a priority project under CPEC, the USD 2 billion, 1320 MW Power Plant has been constructed in a record time of just 2 years. From the time of its groundbreaking on 21 March 2017 to its commercial operation in August 2019, thousands of Pakistanis and Chinese labourers and engineers strived day and night to make it a reality. The project is a joint venture between CPIH, a wholly owned subsidiary of State Power Investment Corporation of China, which owns 52.5% and HPHL, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hub Power Company, of Pakistan which own 47.5% in the project.

CPHGC will generate almost 9 billion kWh electricity every year, meeting the electricity needs of approximately 4 million Pakistani households, significantly helping to contribute the electricity shortfall in the country.

During the construction phase, CPHGC also continued to actively contribute in the socio-economic development of its surrounding area. It hired local contractors to meet its needs of construction material, helping to boost the local economy in the process. It also actively participated through CSR initiatives, including the USD400,000/- Floating Jetty for the fishermen of Allana Goth, Football pitch in the neighbouring school, relief supplies for flood affected people of Lasbella and helping to clean Hub town.

CPHGC has also entered into an agreement with The Citizen’s Foundation according to which the company will finance the construction of a school in the Gaddani area.
